It’s been a busy time since we started Ballpark Ventures earlier this year, so I thought I’d update you on some of the companies I’ve been involved with recently, either as an investor, mentor, advisor or Non-Exec Director (or a combination of any of these roles).
First up is Tadaa.net, who topically enjoyed their millionth download last week. Not bad for a German company with little in the way of marketing and only on iOS so far – worth remembering that despite the mighty Apple PR machine that the volume these days is in Android, who have about 65% market share.
The lack of marketing spend is quite an extraordinary endorsement of the quality and innovation of the product, or as Ralph Waldo Emerson was meant to have written* “Build a better mousetrap, and the world will beat a path to your door”. The Tadaa product combination of superior photo app and social sharing is great and garnering loads of passionistas.
So that’s the first of the companies in my loose portfolio and an exciting one to kick off this little exercise with.
Don’t forget to try it out – you’ll be impressed.
* What Ralph Waldo Emerson actually wrote was the less snappy: “If a man has good corn or wood, or boards, or pigs, to sell, or can make better chairs or knives, crucibles or church organs, than anybody else, you will find a broad hard-beaten road to his house, though it be in the woods.” This later got corrupted to the rather more famous mousetrap quote.
