Amen Russell. If only these thoughts were distilled online when we all started in this industry back in 1999. But in retrospect, learning them the hard way - and the marathon journey this involves - is far far more important, satisfying and rewarding than a 100m sprint to the finish with all the answers in ones pocket. So although it is a good thing to publish the rules of entrepreneurial engagement, I hope you will keep a little back so that the next generation can enjoy their own journey. But perhaps I needn't worry as your younger readers just starting out will likely do what most stubborn entrepreneurs do - tear up the book of universal business wisdom and start again, only to arrive several years later at the same conclusions in the metaphorical book they tossed aside :-)
