The Mobile Marketing Association is committed to ensuring the health and prosperity of the cross-carrier short code environment and is committed to the U.S. Consumer Best Practices Guidelines as the bedrock of consumer protection principles for the mobile marketing ecosystem. Consistent with this mission, the MMA welcomes the opportunity to facilitate a dialogue amongst its members to discuss.

The Mobile Marketing Association will host a working session, amongst our interested members, to discuss “How to Cultivate A Successful Mobile Marketing Ecosystem in the United States”. The purpose of the session will be to discuss ideas on how to foster growth, identify opportunities and recommend options for the industry to consider as it evolves over the coming years. The objective of the session will be to develop viable business model recommendations over the next 1, 3 and 5 years for the industry (collectively) to consider in creating a healthy and sustainable mobile channel.

The first of the working sessions will be a conference call for MMA member companies which will be held in the United States on Monday, January 12 from 12pm – 2pm ET. We will include overviews for each of the five (5) sections of the ecosystem - as well as draft recommendations for sustainable business models - followed by an open discussion.

We would welcome broader participation from around the globe from those who are interested. To RSVP, please send email to rsvp@mmaglobal.com

As you prepare your predictions for 2009 for mobile, let me introduce the topic of SMS fees in the U.S. that will be overhauled in the upcoming year. My prediction would call for the carriers and global aggregators coming together to have a better share of revenue and thus increase the speed in granting short codes and monitoring short codes.

Verizon and the like have already stated things must change. Let us hope that the two groups can come together for the greater good...
