DLD 08

Posted by Russell Buckley on 01.17.08 | Comment?

It’s that time again. Next week, a veritable Who’s Who of digital media, arts and entertainment converge on Munich for Burda’s famousDLD 08.

To give an idea of DLD’s importance in the calendar, many of the speakers and delegates are going straight on to Davos for the World Economic Forum to hobnob with the likes of Condoleezza Rice, Tony Blair and my boss, Omar Hamoui of AdMob, who’s been voted a Technology Pioneer. Congrats, Omar! Still, he didn’t get voted as one of the most 50 important people in mobile content (unlike me), so you can’t have everything :-)

Of course, not everyone goes to Davos - some of us have to do some work around here.

But DLD is quite prestigious enough and it’s very hard to get an invitation, let alone a speaking slot, so I feel very flattered to have been asked.

The mix of speakers is wide-ranging and eclectic, ranging from Atheism’s poster child, Richard Dawkins to Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia. Along the way we’ll hear from Sir Martin Sorrell, Martha Stewart, author Paulo Coelho, Last Minute’s Brent Hoberman, Niklas Zennstom and great thinkers like Clay Shirky and Jeff Jarvis and a host of other notables.

My prediction for the most controversial panel is where comes face to face Jason Calacanis and Jimmy Wales. These guys have quite a lot of history. Jimmy is very dismissive of Jason’s Mahalo (a human powered search engine, in case you’ve been off-planet), claiming that it’s “just not that interesting. I mean, I am sure it is lovely and all, but I really don’t care about it.” Jason has accused Jimmy of Stalin-esque attempts to re-write history in his sadly missed Podcast.

If anyone would like me to ask any of the speakers a question or to share details about a particular panel, please leave a comment or drop me an email.
