Pictures Come to Radio

There’s an interesting feature on the BBC about how Digital Radio is being enhanced by the addition of pictures.

I’m a big fan of radio and have speculated for some time that its Golden Age is yet to come, stimulated by a migration into mobile phones. Indeed, there’s a strong argument that audio and mobile make the dream team, as opposed to TV and mobile - not the least as you won’t bump into things as you’re….well, mobile.

But audio + pictures seems to have been done already it seems to me, and it’s called television.

I’d suggest that enhanced radio is much more likely to include tools to make the experience more interactive, as an optional, as opposed to mandatory, feature. This might well include some facility to see pictures, but it’s the interactivity that’s the key differentiator and it’s that which will take radio to new levels.
