i will agree with the above post about the simplicity of the UI but i personally think that it is over simplified. this may be the one device that the mass public would use over 90 percent of its features. with that said the phone becomes boring to have within a week. i have several sony Es and Nokia that impress day by day. i am a heavy phone user, as a communicator, media portal, and mobile office. i use many more features from a device than most would but i am still only using 40% of the device at most. and that to me is a pretty good feeling :)

I sometimes lend new phones to my wife to see if she likes them. For example, she once had the Nokia N70 and got really annoyed about how to use it, how to use all the menus and the functions. Yesterday evening i gave her the iPhone, and after 10 Minutes she had figured out most functions and concluded: "Super, i want one" (which, as this was a test unit and not mine, breaks our budget). Ok, she did not use it in day-to-day-situations, made no phone calls etc. But the ui is really very easy to understand, very intuitive. I am afraid, if nokia just puts a ui like the iphone-ui as an additional menu on its n-series-phones, this will rather make things more complicated then easy: A simple UI is all about narrowing the possible ui-actions down to very few. A phone with two total different menu systems is not very user-friendly (just think of the odd "quick menu" motorola used to have in the nineties).

Rather kill the series 60 ui completely and build a new one.

If you experiment a bit you might find that you can get your podcast via Safari.

I found purely by accident that if the podcast is an mp3 file the iPhone will open and play it .

Of course RealAudio and other streamers won't work, but at least one format does.

I have to agree with WTF about the recessed headphone port. My Shure headphones are now plugged into a shure adapater that plugs into the iPhone. I have about 1,5meters worth of cables that I have to lug around with me whenever I want to listen to tunes. What a joke. Invariably I'll whip out my nano to get the job done.

@ Klaus..:

"We will see but my guess is, the next iPhone will not be released in the US first."

Especially if it has 3G! Nice write up.

With all that hype created in the past six months (slowly fading away now) it feels as if the iPhone is around/available in Europe for a long time.

In two month from now the iPhone may be regarded as "old" by the European hipsters and they will wait for a G2 iPhone with 3G capabilities.

We will see but my guess is, the next iPhone will not be released in the US first.
