Perhaps it's simply that mobile numbers are harder to remember? Typically the dial codes (bar international ones) have nothing to do with location or anything else to make a simple link for us. Anything over 7 digits is notoriously tough to recall.
I don't even know my wife's mobile number. But I know loads of people's home numbers from memory.
But I get the general point. Same happened to song titles with the move to cds. In the old days of LP records users spent ages reading the covers and assimilating not just the titles, but the lyric sheets too. Now, how do you do on song titles?
Oddly enough MP3 swings things the other way - with the graphical displays of titles. Fine - if you aren't driving.

Admittedly I googled it. I'm also relying on external memory :).

Hi Mark

Thanks for the comment.

Can you explain a little more and shed some light on my lack of knowledge in this area? Would be interesting to find out more.

Thanks

“Use it or lose it” is one of the fundamental precepts of evolutionary biology

In the Lamarckian theory of evolution, it is. But I think you'll find most evolutionary biologists don't subscribe to that.
