[...] There is definitely something to say about the title here and it was an important part of the discussions during 3GSM. Mike and Carlo mentioned something on this already, read also Michael’s interesting take on this subject. [...]

Thanks. I know it's kinda sad but I like to able to put 3rd party apps on a phone.

Talking of phone lust (how sad is that?) this looks nice: http://www.forum.nokia.com/devices/6110_Navigator?cp=0207B&entry=7

I had a Vario II with HSDPA on T-Mobile UK for a while. It was great. I'm totally sold on having HSDPA in a cell phone.

Gabriel -- Older UIQ 2 apps (ie for the P900 or P910) aren't compatible with the newer version of the UI, UIQ 3. But, UIQ 3 applications (such as for the P1000), are compatible with the Z8 (which actually uses UIQ 3.1) as long as they've been developed using the UIQ framework and support features like the softkey style.

After that, it probably isn't surprising to hear that there are apparently few applications that are 100% compatible :) but the UIQ folks say many need only minor adjustments to work.

Good call on the bendy Moto. I tried on the booth. Definitely want one.

I don't really like flip-flop phones (RAZR etc), so this is the first time in a long while that I want a Motorola. Do normal UIQ apps work on it?

Hey Carlo, I agree it's going to be an interesting new world as all these competing objectives and incentives begin to mash together. Personally, I think the biggest fight is going to move away from who owns the customer and move to who's responsible for pissing the customer off the least. Personally, I think it's going to gravitate around the subject of mobile internet network nuetrality.

I'm really interested to hear what other blogging pontificators have to say about this. My opninon is...
