Lest We Forget - We’re Geeks

Posted by Russell Buckley on 10.05.06 | 1 Comment

An interesting piece of research from Nielsen/NetRatings into how normal people view technology and the terminology involved. Please note, if you’re reading this, you’re a geek, even if you may not feel like one.

57% of Brits don’t understand the term IM, for Instant Messaging and while 40% use RSS, 67% don’t know what it is. 35% and 34% respectively have heard the terms podcasting and blogging, but didn’t know what they mean either.

So next time you’re tempted to apply a TLA or clever-clever word to your tech and that won’t be understood by anyone who isn’t a geek, just remember - KISS principles apply here.
