It‚Äôs been possible for ages to take pictures of documents with your mobile’s camera, upload them to a PC and then view them very clearly. The trouble is that they have to be blown up so big to be¬†legible¬†that you can‚Äôt read them at A4 size on your screen or print them out, which makes them very unwieldy to navigate and use.

So now we have, Clicktoscan for anyone who wants to get scan quality reproductions of any printed document. You simply upload a picture of the document by MMS or email to Clickscan, which cleans up the quality and either emails you a PDF or sends it to a fax machine of your choice. Rumour has it people still use fax machines – how quaint.

The only issue I see with this is that, stating the bleeding obvious, it doesn’t work with mobiles without cameras. Not such a dumb observation actually as many enterprise handsets deliberately exclude cameras from their specs. My new and lovely shiny Nokia E61 is one such beast and it roars mightily in every other way I’ve found to use it. But no camera phone, no Clicktoscan and no useful tool for this particular business person.
