I'm a mobile UE/usability designer.

I have to agree with your point -- if industry/tech people are not using all features of their mobile, what about the rest of the population of the world.

It's an example sometimes use in meetings when surrounded by mobile industry people. We are all experts, we think about mobile UI all day every day... BUT normal users do not.

Normal users just want to pick up their phone and achieve their aims easily and quickly.

And as you say, we are just a small percentage of the population -- if we technology-based people don't get it/use it, how can we expect the rest of the population to do so.

I agree. I also read that article at 33,000 feet. Then landed and went to a client/mates house in Marbella and watched Big Brother via SlingBox on his windows mobile, streamed from a Sky receiver in UK. Great quality over 3G.

Don't you think it was a weak edition of Wired though? That 'How To' section was poor. And how many pages of advertising did Geek Squad take out!
