MobHappy reader Irakli West, hotshot creative director and part-time fireman here in Germany, writes in to tell me about an intriguing cooperative moblogging experiment that he’s running with his fellow firefighters during the footie World Cup. If you’ve been off-planet (or in America - ha ha), this kicks off today.
The firefighters will be attending matches and generally providing stand-by emergency support as part of the huge security operation. Let’s hope that they’re not really needed. But during the tournament, they’ll all be taking photos with their mobiles and uploading them to a collective blog.
They take the photo, send it by redirected email to Flickr, which then automatically uploads the image to their blog here.
Does anyone else know of similar group blogs like this - footie connected or not?
If I was Alfie at Moblogging UK, I’d be pinching this idea and running an England Supporters’ Group Blog. Pics from fans live at matches and from fans at home, in the street, crying when we get knocked out - you know the kind of thing.
I wonder how FIFA would feel about it in relation to possible infringement of copyright and compromising their sponsors’ huge investment? It would be amusing to watch them struggle to get this cute little 800 lb tiger back into its bag.
Could be a nice ambush marketing opportunity for someone too.

If only the “in-US = off-planet” joke had no basis in truth.

Similar group blogs? Mobido supports this.
On Mobido you create a tag (tagname@mobido.com) and then anyone can send mobile phone photos there. Mobido tags have a bunch of special features including associating inbound pictures with groups and RSS feeds. There’s also the requisite photostream badge you can drop into a webpage to show the newset photos from selected groups.
I use these group tags for family stuff (kids pics, etc) and others use them for parties, special interest groups, and event promotions.
have you used http://grou.ps - they have mobile feature for their groups - its pretty good. A mobile group bloggin can take place in such an activity also!
