The astute among you will remember me excoriating a Chinese analyst firm back in February for their overly optimistic prediction that there would be 10 million 3G subscribers in the country this year, despite there still being no sign of when the government there will award 3G licenses. Well, the good folks at Analysys International are back with a new report, saying there will be just 440,000 Chinese 3G users by the end of the year.
So in the space of six weeks, they’ve somehow lost 9.56 million subscribers — or put another way, their original estimate has decreased by 95.6%. Any explanantion why? No. Any acknowledgment in their PR of their previous prediction? Of course not.
