When 20% of the population starts doing anything, you know you have a major trend happening. So it’s fascinating to read about M:Metrics’ latest findings.
An incredible 8.9 million UK mobile phone owners, or 20% of the mobile owning population voted in a TV reality show poll - in January. That’s not ever voted, it was in one month.
Not so encouraging for non-sms data usage, 4% downloaded a game that month and 11.6% used their phone to access news or information. However, putting that in perspective, this is a significant slug of the market, albeit stuck in Early Adopter territory. But it does mean that almost everyone knows people who are now using the mobile web on a day-to-day basis.
