Goldfrapp To MobLog

Posted by Russell Buckley on 02.13.06 | Comment?

When a name as big on the music scene as Goldfrapp, in conjunction with mega-label EMI, start something, you know it’s gone mainstream and is almost certainly here to stay.

So now Goldfrapp have followed Maximo Park and started to moblog, it’s great news for moblogging in general and Moblog.co.uk, the Electronica-meets-trip-hop-meets-glam duo’s chosen platform.

Moblogging is the perfect vehicle for bringing artists closer to their audience and helping to really cement the musician and fan bond. This was a function traditionally undertaken by the media, who must surely be worried by these sorts of development, as in this context, it really leaves them without much of a role at all.

Furthermore, this tool is available now very cheaply through services like moblog.co.uk, meaning even the newest and most impoverished bands can add it to their promotional repertoire.

When we reported on Maximo Park in December, we said that this technique was about to go mainstream. I didn’t think it would get taken up quite this quickly by such a high profile name.

By the way, if you don’t know Goldfrapp, check them out. Imagine if Marc Bolan and Debi Harris had ever got it together, the kids would be making exactly this type of music. See the video for Ride on a White Horse here.

Goldfrapp trivia: Alison Goldfrapp (actually her real name) got her first singing gig after being heard yodelling at a party while milking a cow.
