Opera Mini Released Worldwide!

operamini_campaign.jpgJohn Gale over at MobileTracker was kind enough to tip me off that Opera Mini, the terriffic browser that works on the 95% of phones that don’t have the power to run full blown Opera has been released worldwide today. You can read the full release here: Opera Mini Worldwide

If you haven’t tried this slick browser that is less than a 100 k download you really should, it could change your opinion about mobile web browsing.

  • Opera mini won't work on T-Mobile with Noika s40 v2 phones (like my Nokia 6101).
It appears that this may be the same root problem as the failure of Google Local for Mobile on T-Mobile.

Unfortunately, T-Mobile is pointing fingers at Google and Opera, while Google and Opera are shrugging their shoulders and pointing at T-Mobile.

My suspicion from reading the fora (I tried to type "forums," but just couldn't do it :-) is that the problem would be easily remedied with a little discussion between the companies, however there's no indication that's happening.

No matter who's "right" about the cause, I'm guessing it'll hurt T-Mobile more than it hurts Google or Opera if the problem doesn't get fixed. I'm more likely to switch providers than I am to sit on the sidelines and say, "Darn Google, anyway!" And, once I do, my friends are likely to say, "Wow -- how do *I* get a cool browser like that on my phone?" ("Dude. Switch providers.")

I have no idea how to raise the visibility of the problem to T-Mobile, though.
