Mobile Scrapbooking Opportunity?

Posted by on 10.05.05 | 1 Comment

Scrapbooking is one of those phenomenon that’s just exploded in the last few years. Unless someone you know who is involved, it’s probably not really on your radar.

According to Wikipedia, scrapbooking is “a hobby where people insert newspaper clippings, magazine articles, photos, usually personal, or other memorabilia into decorated albums, or scrapbooks”.

There are also digital variants, where people compose pages online using scanners and online sources to create more professional results.

What might surprise you is that 1 in 3 households in the US indulge in cropping. Half of all croppers spend 10 hours a week or more doing it. And as an industry it generates $2.55 billion dollars a year.

I wonder if this is a latent use for mobile at all? As a hobby, it’s not going to appeal to the typical mobile early adopter (ie under 30), but older folks still have mobiles too. Other than making pics taken with your mobile easier to upload, like with Cognima is there a big opportunity here?
