My friend, the Vanilla Gorilla, reports on Revolution Magazine’s write up on Forbes’ top brands in the world.
Its almost like the bubble never happened, according to this, with all top 6 being digital (Apple, Blackberry, Google, Yahoo, Amazon and eBay) with only number 7 being a fizzy drink - Red Bull.
Huh? No Coke, Kellogg’s or P&G giant? Well, in fairness, that’s because the results are based on increase in brand value, not brand value per se.
It’s still a very, very sobering list, especially if you’re in advertising and especially if you like doing TV commercials (and what ad agency doesn’t?). This is because none of the top 6 use TV advertising, at least regularly (Apple have from time to time). In fact, I’m not sure that any of the Top 10 fastest growing brands on the list use this form of marketing (maybe Pixar’s The Incredibles DVD was advertised?).
Advertising is dying. New Marketing rules. Get with the programme.
