Halt! It’s the Fat Police

Samsung’s new model in South Korea, SPH-E3330, can measure oneÌs fat levels. You enter your name, weight and height and a slight touch of the finger on the measuring device displays oneÌs body fat level.

Following the recent epidemic of law suits in the US against fast food giants, you can just see them asking you to prove your svelteness on a machine like this before serving up a Super Size Burger, double fries and a shake.

Health is clearly a big issue in the Korean market, as rivals LG Electronics’ LG-KP8400, is equipped to measure blood-sugar levels, diet, and medication prescriptions, as well as long-distance medical consultations. Not so user friendly this one, it requires you to place a blood stained litmus paper on the phone for the analysis to begin.

LG also plan to release a “stress phone” that informs you of your stress level by checking your heart rate, by early next year. I can think of nothing more stressful than constantly having my stress levels monitored.

Meanwhile, Silver-nano technology seems to be the coating of choice in Korea right now. Sure, it looks groovy, but the real reason is that it repels germs (honestly).

ÏNormally, there are about 25,000 germs on one cellular phone,Ó said a researcher at SK, adding, ÏResearch shows that if you were to cultivate germs on a normal handset, 70 to 80 percent of them would remain even after a 24 hours, but 99.9 percent of germs disappear on a Silver-nano handset within only three hours.Ó

And you thought you were a hypochondriac.
