Engadget reports that an Israeli company
has developed a $200 cellphone for the lip-reading deaf; the callerÌs voice is electronically mimed by a character on screen, whose lips can be read.
The downside might be that this could threaten the jobs of a whole bunch of professional hearing signers who translate for the deaf everyday in schools, colleges and on TV, to name a few.
